Pension Campaign In 2007 the Foundation received a grant dedicated to constructing a visitors house in Los Toros - in Spanish they call it a Pension. Construction plans have been completed and land has been acquired and we are ready to start building. Dee and Al Schlecht are leading a fund drive to raise $5,000.00 to complete the funding for this project. Below is information about the Pension. SHEET Housing for visitors and professional workers in Los Toros; accommodations for six or more people with bath and kitchen facilities. Location: In Los Toros near the end of Duarte Street about three blocks from new church and close to the river. Design
and Size: Design is single level similar to other residences in Los Toros with the exception of two bathrooms instead of one. 36’ X 35’ – 1296 square feet. Three bedrooms, Two Bathrooms, Kitchen, Living-Dining Area and Meeting Area, Exterior Porch-Patio. The design is adequate and comfortable yet in accordance with our solidarity with the people of Los Toros. Construction: Cement Block, Cement Floors, Indoor Water Service, LP Gas for Kitchen, Minimal Electric Service. Cost: Approximately $15,000.00 plus furnishings – to be determined. (Furnishings would be acquired from local sources). Maintenance: Volunteers to perform maintenance work, yearly cost approximately $250.00 - $350.00. Since house is titled to charitable organization there would be no taxes or local property fees other than electric, water and gas which would cost approximately $350.00 annually. Funding: Initial contributions and an annual appeal for maintenance fees. Visitors would contribute a small fee for use of facility to cover supplies and maintenance. Furnishings could be room by room with sponsors for each room.
