You Can Help Build the Los Toros Parish Office and Priest’s Residence
Background and Current Need:
- The Los Toros Mission helped the people of Los Toros build their church building in 2004.
- The bishop designated it an official parish in 2022, naming it Santo Cura de Ars Parish (St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, Parish).
- The Pastor, Padre Guy Nelson, currently lives in the rectory in Las Yayas, 8 miles away. He serves the people of two parishes and 20 chapels in the area.
- The parish records — Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, weddings and funerals are all stored in the parish in another town, Tabarra Arriba.
- Bishop Tomás Alejo, of the Diocese of San Juan de La Maguana, has been asking parishioners for several years to build a parish office and a residence for a priest. Bishop Alejo has said his goal is to assign a resident priest for Santo Cura de Ars Parish after there is a residence.

Joint Fund Raising here and in Los Toros
The people of Los Toros are committed to this and have asked for our help to build an addition on the back of the church for the office and the residence.
- They have started a fund drive, selling concrete blocks.
- The plans for the addition have been designed by Mike Weber, a long-time member of St. Joseph Parish and a long-time volunteer and leader in the Los Toros Mission. He is a retired engineer who also designed several other buildings of the Mission, including the church. Mike Weber is working in collaboration with Felipe and Batista, local building contractors.
- The estimated cost of the addition is about $25,000 US. Approximately one-third of that amount has already been raised. As contributions come in, work will be able to continue, in stages, until the addition is completed.
